I have practiced Phlebotomy for 7 years, and I have learned that wisdom does not always come with seniority. Recently we have had a senior nurse transferred to our department and she is not well-liked. One day I got in an argument with the nurse on how I was handling a patient. The patient had been one of mine for years, and our routine had always gone fine. She tried to insinuate that I was doing something wrong and I quickly corrected her. She then began yelling at me in front of my patient, and it’s hard to keep your cool in a situation like this. I told my patient I would return and I fetched the doctor to deal with her. She was disciplined harshly and I was glad I stood my ground.
